Hydrostatic release unit
2-year disposable unit with no maintenance
cost
The Hammar H20 hydrostatic release unit is designed for
liferafts from 6 to 150 persons. There's also a special Hammar H20
Small Rafts model for non-SOLAS liferafts - 4-12 persons.
How does it work? It's simple really. The white strong rope is
secured to the deck or liferaft cradle and attached to the liferaft
lashing with a sliphook. If the ship sinks, the water pressure
will, within 4 metres, activate a sharp knife that cuts the white
strong rope. The liferaft will then float free.
As the ship sinks, the liferaft painter line will be stretched
and the liferaft will start to inflate. The Red Weak Line⢠will
then break and survivors can board the floating liferaft.
The Hammar H20 needs no annual service, no maintenance and no
spare parts but it must be replaced within two years of being
installed onboard.
